Antikythera is an initiative focused on understanding and shaping the impact of computation on philosophy, global society, and planetary systems. Antikythera will engage a wide range of thinkers at the intersections of software, speculative thought, governance, and design to explore computation’s ultimate pitfalls and potentials. Research will range from the significance of machine intelligence and the geopolitics of AI to new economic models and the long-term project of composing a healthy planetary society.

Stamen is a data visualization design studio that creates dynamic expressions of vast and deep bodies of historical or realtime information for clients ranging from large online applications to major cities.

With Kevin Slavin and Tod Kurt. AFK developed systems for responsive environments. We built integrated software and hardware platforms for clients such as airports, hotels, and amusement parks that allowed new types of designers to create 'experience applications for spaces'.

For a brief stint during their startup cycle, I took the role of CCO to reformulate the creative strategy of the company and manage a distributed creative team, while hiring most of the design group.

With a small team, generated prototypes of experimental interaction techniques and conceptual models for digital products and experiences. Formulated a new approach to integrated software/hardware/environment development.

Founding team of Ludicorp, creators of flickr. Directed platform strategy and game concept design. Provided vision and context for massively collaborative creative systems and social computing architectures. Named the flickr service.

With Robert Fabricant, established the Research and Development Group within Organic. Oversaw 3 corporate-level research staff and 12+ research activites throughout the 6 global offices. Prototyped broadband media search tools and ubiquitous wireless information services. Research partners included Lucent Bell Labs, the New York Times, and The American Museum of the Moving Image.
