Migrated 350+ mailboxes across 4 domains to Microsoft Exchange Online (Office 365). This allowed full Active Directory integration for email services including Single Sign On (SSO) and greatly simplified administration.Cut email hosting costs by approximately 45% by writing and enforcing acceptable use, creation, retention, and archival guidelines for active and inactive email accounts.Developed a series of Python based scripts to automate common database and website maintenance saving approximately 10 hours a week in IT staff time.Deployed a 4 node Network Security Monitoring system based on the Security Onion framework (Snort, BRO-IDS, Sguil, Snorby, Argus, etc) to monitor internal and external network traffic on a 60 user, 160 port network. This monitoring system was extended using network mapping tools (MRTG, NTOP, etc) to create visualizations of network traffic. VLANs were then created or reconfigured reduce bottlenecks and chokepoints. Oversaw the deployment and adoption of Basecamp and ProofHQ as project management tools for 80+ users across 6 departments.

Using this data we reworked employee shift times and saw 10% average daily increase in documents processed.

Deployed and maintained a server architecture that served an average of 3 million unique visitors and 15 million page views a month across 30 domains.Oversaw the migration to Amazon's EC2 and S3 cloud computing platform making Rudius an early adopter of the platform as a full-time, on-demand web host. Integrated a series of open source Perl scripts into a coherent system that allowed for the dynamic allocation and de-allocation of servers in near real time (prior to Amazon’s Elastic Load Balancing offering). This provided server capacity to handle traffic spikes that would have otherwise resulted in downtime. For example: HollywoodInterrupted.com was the #2 result in Google News when John Travolta’s son passed. RingandCage.com was promoted by fighters and fight camps during several televised (both pay-per-view and free) UFC events.IHopeTheyServeBeerInHell.com was the online destination for both a movie and New York Times Best Selling book of the same title. During a two month promotional tour in support of the release of the movie, the website was the subject of numerous television, radio, print and internet advertising campaigns. This site also hosted all the supplemental promotional marketing material for the movie.Responsible for an IT budget of $150,000 for the years 2007, 2008 & 2009. Helped to negotiate seven book deals over three years for new and previously unpublished authors by leveraging online publishing and social media to curate audiences outside of traditional publishing channels. This audience was a major negotiating point in the author's favor when approached agents and publishing houses.Increased readership, book sales and brand awareness for established authors such as Robert Greene (48 Laws of Power) and Mark Ebner (Hollywood Interrupted) by creating and managing online communities for their fans.

Developed a campus-wide network to bring Internet connectivity to approximately 3800 students.Oversaw the installation and site-survey of Wireless Access Points which provided connectivity to all dorm rooms and most common areas including libraries, cafeterias and other social gathering areas.Directly responsible for the configuration and ongoing administration of the core network infrastructure. (Cisco Catalyst switches, Cisco Pix firewall) as well as network monitoring and management functions, including a suite of SNMP based tools (MRTG, What’s UP Gold, custom Perl scripts) and passive network sniffing (Snort).Wrote and presented a deployment path to extend this network to four research departments so that they could better comply with HIPAA regulations. Instrumental in turning the four department extension into a pilot program for a research network that allowed for the university to continue sharing research data off of the Hospital’s network which carried patient data.
