Responsible for the environmental services aspect of the company's activities including site remediation, hazardous waste treatment, acid sulphate soil management, groundwater and wastewater treatment and industrial services. Clients are from the energy, industrial, waste, construction and land development sectors, as well as all levels of government including Defence.

Responsible for the day-to-day management of a rapidly growing compost facility in the heart of the coal mining and coal seam gas industry in Central Queensland. Reporting directly to the CQ Compost Board, comprising of JJ Richards Directors and original CQ Compost Directors. Key achievements included increasing revenue three fold whilst maintaining profitability. Managing rapid growth including numerous additional key staff positions, implementing an Intergrated Management System and improving corporate governance reporting and structure. Obtained a specific Beneficial Reuse Approval (BUA) for CSG waste products, the first of its kind in Queensland, and expanded the business into new markets.

Providing technical advice and guidance for the treatment of hazardous waste, as well as bioremediation and composting applications.

Co-Founder since October 2006, responsible for the technical development of new technologies for the waste and remediation sectors. Includes IP licensing, product and services sales and managing a small highly skilled technical team.Key achievements included developing and commercialising RemActiv, a bioremediation additive to enhance microbial activity. Developing and commercialising in conjunction with CSIRO, RemBind F, a hazardous waste chemical fixation reagent, with numerous product sales. Developing a rapid in-situ TPH quantification method for MIR application in conjunction with CSIRO.

Responsible for managing a complex array of staff, sub-contractors and experts for the development of remediation solutions for a range of sites contaminated with complex pollutants in both soil and groundwater, as a specialist remediation contractor.Key achievements included completing the world’s first carbon neutral dredging project.Successfully delivered numerous complex remediation projects, and sold the company in December 2009 to a large NSW-based remediation contractor.

Responsible for managing financial and staffing resources to achieve successful project outcomes within set budget and time constraints to enable delivery of specialised environmental remediation and organic waste treatment technologies, environmental consulting and waste auditing.

Directly contributed to the professionalism and competitive position of SARDI as a research provider by enhancing the expertise within the Environmental Biotechnology CRC / Integrated Farming research program to achieve desired outcomes.Responsible for the development and management of the anaerobic digestion system, as part of an overall integrated waste management system. Provided economic waste treatment outcomes for industries partners. Supervised operational and technical staff as well as students. Conducted and managed field and laboratory research including maintenance of research facilities and the management of research and project budgets.Investigated the microbial aggregation, biological characterisation and environmental influence on microbial activity by using novel molecular techniques such as FISH.

Remediating contaminated soils and sludges at a dedicated waste treatment facility for a number of industry clients for safe disposal to either landfill or return to on-site. Conducting organic waste strategies for regional areas. Developing waste treatment technologies for specific clients. Designing and implementing laboratory-scale and pilot-scale experiments to apply to full-scale operations using traditional and novel scientific procedures and equipment. Operating state of the art laboratory equipment to determine quantitative amounts of contaminants over set time periods.

Based in Port Lincoln, South Australia, the project was designed to minimise impacts of wastewater generated from the local fishing industry on marine and sewage outfall systems. In addition a water reuse scheme was to be developed using water from industry in the township of Port Lincoln including the fishing industry. Activities included determination of the quality and quantity of trade wastewater produced by fish processors and the potential impact on the local wastewater treatment plant. Identifying the source of saline groundwater ingress into the local sewer system and determination of the quantity and quality of stormwater available for re-use from the township of Port Lincoln in partnership with SA Water. Assessing the potential for waste minimisation in fish processing factories and implementing waste minimisation strategies. Acting as a fulcrum for communication between all stakeholders alike holding all relevant information to keep contact up between all involved. Report writing for both government agencies and fish processors as well as an industry journal.
