In 2016, I was promoted to the role of Structural Designer. As a designer, my role took on more responsibility than my past detailer role. I was able to do structural layouts based on an architectural plan, pull together necessary structural details and views the are relevant to the project. Actively coordinating the structural design with other discipline designers, detailers, and engineers. I performed BIM/CAD training with new detailers and designers. I retained my department CAD coordinator role which also included working with detailers and designers in our regional offices. The BIM STAT team was dissolved, but I continue to find myself in the role of training, problem-solving, and assisting other detailers and designers with BIM/CAD related issues.

By 2008, I had been promoted to the position of Structural Detailer. In this role, I worked more directly with project engineers and served as the lead structural detailer for my projects. I took care of projects on my own, servicing all engineers on the project. As lead detailer, I was also responsible for coordinating with other disciplines' lead detailers. I continued to serve as CAD Coordinator on projects, and it was in this role that I experienced my first Revit and BIM projects. In 2012, I was added to a group called the BIM STAT team which served the entire division's BIM needs, including creating content, building templates, and addressing emerging client BIM standards and deliverables. In 2013, the division made Revit the default BIM software for all projects going forward based on the recommendation of the BIM STAT team and other internal groups. I also first stepped into a Department CAD Coordinator role in the structural engineering department. In this role, I served as the main POC for the department for topics of CAD, BIM, and staffing. I gave my department manager feedback on CAD staff, and was included in all CAD/BIM related interviews.

I served as Project BIM/CAD Coordinator for many projects throughout my career. Coordinating design models for domestic and international projects involving multiple design disciplines, running clash detection reports, laser scanning existing building conditions, implementing BIM/CAD standards for commercial and federal clients.

In May of 2005, I was hired on at Burns & McDonnell as a Structural Drafting Technician. As a technician I worked under other Structural Detailers helping with red marks received from their project engineers. I became proficient in Bentley Microstation, Autodesk AutoCAD, and Autodesk Architectural Desktop during this time as each project client determined which software was to be used. I had my first experience as a CAD Coordinator in this role, and I learned what it takes to put an entire set of construction documents together.
