Wisley. As a student on the horticultural training programme, I worked in the estate, fruit, rock and trials departments of the gardens. Studies included production of a pest and disease collection, taxonomic collection and horticultural diary, plus attendance on practical and theoretical lecture courses.

Working as a volunteer gardener gaining practical experience in all aspects of gardening, I worked in all sections of the garden including the nursery and the tree unit. I also attended weekly plant identification tests.
