Architectural AssistantFoster And Partners Feb 1992 - Aug 1993London, United KingdomKing's Cross International Rail TerminalFeasibility Study for new-build concourse building and rail platforms plus refurbishment and upgrade of King’s Cross and St. Pancras Station’s to create a new International Rail Terminal. Role: Preparation of material for Royal Fine Arts Commission, English Heritage and House of Lords Presentations. I was assigned visual survey and drawing duties, producing fine line ink drawings on velum. Following this, I worked on a number of competitions and Planning Applications on a series of commercial and public projects. Tower PlaceThe development was envisaged as a low-rise, deep-plan, energy-conscious office building with flexible, full-access floors.Located opposite the Tower of London, the seven-storey offices of Tower Place, replaces an insensitive sixteen-storey office development that obstructed important view corridors between Greenwich and St Paul’s Cathedral and between the Monument and the Tower. The new buildings help reinstate view corridors whilst making reference to the site’s historic urban grain. They also function to create a new public plaza adjacent to All Hallows Church. The development provides two roughly triangular blocks of office space. Their stone and glass cladding system is designed to allow maximum daylight penetration, whilst the aluminium louvres provide solar shading and layering to the facades. Linking the two blocks is one of the largest glazed atria in Europe incorporating a tensioned glazed wall that terminates above ground level to allow free passage for visitors. Approximately 42,000 sqm GFA.Role: Production of Planning Application drawings for Tower Place redevelopment that were later used as the basis for renewed design 6 years later following a lull in the economy. -
