Manager Histology Quality Compliance

Germany

Phd Student

Regensburg Area, Germany

Driven by my curiosity and passion for life sciences, I decided to challenge myself scientifically and pursue a PhD. My main project encompasses in-depth structural, mechanistic, and functional characterization of a prokaryotic Argonaute protein from a hyperthermophilic methanogenic Archaeon and its putative interaction partners. For my investigation the notable techniques I apply are (among others):- Nuclease activity assays- Nucleic acid binding assays (EMSAs)- Expression and purification of proteins- Incorporation of unnatural amino acids into proteins for fluorescent labeling- Single-molecule FRET- Cultivation and genetic modification of hyperthermophilic anaerobic organismsWithin this project I am responsible for planning, execution, evaluation, and documentation of experiments, presentation of results, as well as coordinating the interaction with our collaborators. In addition to my main project I have also been in charge of several devices at the department, keeping the records of department meetings, and have been involved in teaching activities such as supervising lab courses, research interns and bachelor theses. My PhD gave me the opportunity to prove my determination and ability to work in a well-structured manner. I learned to independently address a research question and, by creative problem solving, critical thinking, and an eye for details, answer it successfully. Overcoming several setbacks, I uncovered a novel, important molecular mechanism which has the potential to answer a number of open questions in the field and is to be published soon.

Quality Management Intern

Nürnberg Area, Germany

Wishing to expand my horizon beyond academia, I had the opportunity to get to know the world of industry by doing an internship in a pharmaceutical company. I opted for the quality management department out of interest in GxP-related topics and in order to gain experience in the sector outside of classical lab and research work.As an intern I was involved in and responsible for:- Supporting the supplier management team in all activities- Designing a supplier qualification process- Supporting the Change Control manager over the full process- Software testing for Change Control processes- Creating, reviewing, and editing SOPs- Creation onboarding documents for interns- Reviewing QP declarations- Preparing narcotics affairs documents for the authorities- Preparing and executing narcotics inventories- Participating in a supplier audit- Supporting the QM back office during an inspection by authoritiesI quickly acquired the specialized GxP knowledge needed to fulfill my tasks and developed a keen understanding of the structured and process-oriented mindset behind this set of regulations. Later on, I successfully transferred some of these operating principles to my PhD work and my volunteering activities within the Junior-GBM.

Research Intern

Prague, The Capital, Czech Republic

In order to gain intercultural experience and work in scientific fields not available at my home university, I did an Erasmus+ internship in the Tissue Engineering research group, which is part of the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Charles University in Prague. This gave me the opportunity to learn a multitude of new techniques, as I performed the following activities:- Fabrication of polymer nanofibers by electro- and forcespinning- Characterization of polymer nanofibers by scanning electron microscopy- Testing the biocompatibility of nanofiber scaffolds in cell culture by metabolism and proliferation assays- Setting up and testing a new HPLC device in the labAside from the scientific input my time in Prague proved immensely valuable for me from a cultural standpoint. I not only learned to find my way in an environment with a substantial language barrier, but also gained a deeper understanding of our neighboring country's culture, which is in some regards remarkably similar to our own, and very different in others, both despite and due to being part of different political spheres in recent history.

High levels of diligence and strong teamwork were required to ensure efficient and safe manufacturing of pharmaceuticals. This job allowed me to gain insights into the inner workings of production in the pharma sector and therefore into a GMP-regulated environment.
