My name is Benedikt Sander, and I am the President and Chief Executive Officer at Preferred Mutual Insurance Company (PMIC), a regional mutual Property & Casualty insurance carrier based in New Berlin, NY, with a rich history dating back to 1896. We specialize in personal lines and small commercial insurance, serving four states in the Northeast: New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New Hampshire. Prior to becoming CEO, I led Preferred’s Underwriting and Sales teams as the EVP of Insurance Operations at PMIC from June 2019 to December 2021. My efforts were centered on building strong agency relationships, improving profitability, and laying the foundations for growth in small commercial. Before joining PMIC, I was with Liberty Mutual Insurance for over 12 years, where I held various senior roles in Commercial Product Management and Underwriting, focusing on profitability improvement, building small commercial capabilities (pricing sophistication, agent EODB, book management/analytics) and transforming underwriting operations. I hold an MBA in Finance and Marketing from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and an MPhil in Economic Theory and Econometrics from the University of Cambridge. My wife and I have 3 children in college; we also have a dog and a cat, who love to make appearances in Preferred Mutuals social media feeds!
