Viticulture & Winemaking Operations Director
As a member of the Australian Management Committee, I was responsible for: - Viticulture and Supply. This department focussed on 2 key areas: 1/ The management of ~1,600 hectares of company owned/leased vineyard across Australia, including all operational and technical viticulture aspects. 2/ The management of our Grower Relations and Wine Supply team who were responsible for business partnerships with ~300 grape growers and a broad range of wine supply companies/brokers. A key focus for this team was on building strong relationships with suppliers to ensure a commercially viable and flexible supply network. - Wineries and logistics. This involved overseeing our two internal wineries with a combined crushing capacity of 75,000 tonnes, as well as our contract processor (~60,000 tonnes) relationships across Australia. A key focus was on wine quality management, operational efficiency and commercial contract management. - Overseeing the R&D, Engineering, Lean Manufacturing, Sustainability (quality, safety and environment) and Systems Development departments. These departments supported the operations in the key elements of capital expenditure project management, continuous improvement implementation, sustainability systems integration and IT systems development respectively. The role required a strong focus on employee relations, financial management, operational efficiency, quality management, lean manufacturing, risk management, employee safety and sustainable environmental management.
