I began my career in IT ten years ago by doing a BTEC National Diploma course for college, teaching the basics of computing, programming and web-design. After finishing college I decided to apply for a BSc Computing course at the University of Abertay in Dundee, Scotland.Halfway though my university degree I decided to focus on Mobile Games as part of my specialisation. The reason being that I've always wanted to make my own video game, and the growing interest in mobile platforms. This formed the basis my dissertation where I created a two-player Bluetooth puzzle game for the Java Mobile platform using many of the game-specific APIs available. I graduated with a 2:2.I then landed a position at Rapid Mobile, a small Edinburgh-based company specialising in mobile websites, advertising and betting games. I worked on various mobile versions of Roulette, Diamond Bonanza and Deal or No Deal. I also worked on expanding their SQL backend used in mobile application deployment, and re-wrote our mobile game build process using ANT.I am now employed with The Miller Group a UK-wide construction and development company as a web analyst. My main goal is the replacement of our legacy document management system with an open source solution.Specialties: Java ME, Java Mobile, Java SE, Java Standard Edition, mobile phones, mobile phone application, mobile phone applications, mobile apps, app, apps, mobile games, mobile gaming, web design, web designs, html, css, javascript, SQL, MySQL, databases, tables, web analyst, cms, content management, content management system, miller group, the miller group, alfresco, xml, data modelling, data models, js, business processes, data migration, business analyses, problem solving

Enterprise Content Managment LeadMiller Homes Ltd May 2014 - Jul 2018Edinburgh, Midlothian, GbContinued development, maintenance and administration of the open-source enterprise content management system Alfresco. Provide general IT support to a user base of over a thousand employees located in branch offices throughout the UK. Part of my role also involves working with employees to assess business requirements, and eventually develop a solution to improve day-to-day processes using the Alfresco platform. I have been heavily involved in numerous projects within The Miller Group's three divisions, surfacing content via a bespoke interface, using custom content modelling and Alfresco's Webscripts platform. I have first-hand experience in content migrations, having taken part in many branch office migrations during office downtime and delivering support on-site as well. Our migration process has a particular focus placed on liaising in advance with the branch office, of which I would be seen by that branch as a touchpoint within the IT department - a person employees can have queries answered or raise concerns with during the migration period.I also provide assistance and support to IT teams internally when required. -

Graduate DeveloperRapid Mobile Jun 2008 - Nov 2009Edinburgh, Lothian, GbMy main role as a Graduate Developer would be the participation in the development process of mobile applications. Throughout most of my time there, I worked mainly on a series of gambling games for JackpotJoy, an online gambling company. The games developed are mobile phone versions of online Flash games. Working in teams of two or three, the games would designed, developed, tested and released in a development cycle of around six to eight months, with constant bug fixing and updates. My tasks would be different each week but primarily consisted of working on gameplay, graphics and animation work, user interface quality, creating menus and user navigation and occasional audio work, all using Java Mobile. For an upcoming release or update of a game, I would take on a supporting role. Mainly using white-box testing, I would test the application on different mobile phones (more phones were used depending on the screen sizes to be released) to ensure the application is working properly. If a problem did arise, I would debug the application to find the problem, fix and then test again. I had varying participation in the development process for the slot games Deal Or No Deal and Diamond Bonanza, and the casino game Roulette. My most significant work is on the mobile version of Roulette. On that game, I did a lot of animation and audio work, as well as the navigation menus and all small screen size versions of the game. I also did some touch screen work with Roulette too, for release on smart phones and the emerging touch screen phone market.I also worked on smaller screen versions of games, for small screen mobile phones. After the application development I worked on streamlining our build process, using Apache Ant. Then I started database work using MySQL, combined with Java Standard Edition, this consisted of creating queries to manipulate data in tables through Java. It was during this time that I learned about JUnit testing.
