Responsible for our Raptor Product Platform, a suite of software tools and rugged production hardware enabling companies to 'Take Control' when designing production control systems. With a long reputation for providing proven solutions efficiently, Raptor provides the speed of conventional Rapid Control Prototyping tools combined with production code generation targeting automotive-grade production ECUs and displays. In this role, I utilized deep knowledge of the product space, experience and contacts in the industry to understand customer and market demands, technology trends, and the competitive field to manage the strategic product roadmap (long-term) and product development (near-term) for our Raptor Product Platform. I created functional strategies and provided architectural / implementation guidance to the product development team, along with technical expertise across multiple teams to help solve our toughest challenges. Some of the things I did in this role were:-Serve as internal voice of the customer, understanding their core needs, use cases and pain points-Work cross-functionally with customer success/support, engineering, marketing and sales teams-Work with engineering to develop the product roadmap and assign feature prioritization-Define product requirements to enable engineering to build the right thing-Work with other platform and product owners to drive company-wide initiatives-Research industry trends to identify new product features and opportunities-Collaborate with key contacts at strategic customers for business development, and to drive product roadmap initiatives
Product Platform Architect / Software Engineering Manager
During my time in this role, I led a team of talented engineers, providing vision, strategy and tasking direction in creating and building out our Raptor Product Platform. We expanded the capabilities of the platform to target the full system development life-cycle for building ‘Intelligent Machines' such as Autonomous Vehicles, IC Engines, Electric Vehicles (EVs), and also diverse mechatronic applications such as work trucks, hydraulic systems control, and stationary power generation. This platform includes tools for Model-Based Control Systems Development using MathWork's MATLAB / Simulink, including automated code generation (C/C++) working in conjunction with a real-time operating system (RTOS). The platform also provides PC tools (WPF, C# .NET) for system calibration, data-logging & analysis, automated testing, and cloud-connected telematics (embedded Java blackbox appliance built on GPS + GSM cellular with a Microsoft Azure Cloud backend - ASP.NET, Web Services). This role provided the opportunity for me to present on behalf of New Eagle at various national industry conferences, seminars and webinars. In this position, I also consulted with our customers and the application engineering team within New Eagle to provide expert troubleshooting / system development guidance. Part of the role included responsibility for finding new business, creating project proposals (scope/budget) for both internal and external customer projects and then managing projects to schedule/budget.Qualified as a Functional Safety Certified Automotive Engineer (FSCAE) by TUV-Nord of Germany for ISO 26262.
Product Development Team Lead / Sr Software Engineer
In this position, I worked as the original and lead developer of our Raptor code generation products which provide our customers with production-ready ECUs thru embedded Model-Based System development. My work involved software development plus managing technical direction and tasking for a growing team of engineers. This involved working with TLC & M-file (MathWorks code generation), C, C++, XML, and C# for Windows tools used in the automated code generation toolchain for embedded control devices.I also had the opportunity to work on some interesting control projects for our customers, including Class 8 (Heavy Duty Truck) Diesel/Electric Hybrid applications and engine control programs targeting CARB/EPA OBD certification for alternative fuels using J1939.
