Profile bio

About Benjamin Huebner

I am a first-year PhD student in Materials Science and Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology where my research is focused on the fundamental characterization of polymer-based electrolytes. I worked seven years for the US Air Force as a civilian materials engineer, but I needed a change. I've gone from the QA testing of metallic aerospace parts that go into energy-guzzling jets and cargo planes to the fundamental testing of polymeric electrolytes for carbon capture, energy storage, and other applications.I am a dedicated worker. effective communicator, and lifelong learner. I appreciate learning from others just as much as I enjoy figuring out things for myself. I’ve enjoyed stints working in technological innovation spaces and am always curious to learn about new developments and opportunities in all facets of science and technology.

Listed skills include Materials Science, Engineering, Organic Chemistry, Matlab, and 23 others.

Working under their mission of mishap prevention, I gained knowledge and experience to take back with me to Robins AFB. My highlights are as follows:- Learned fundamental failure analyses methods and practices while simultaneously gaining hands-on experience.- After consulting with team members, I developed a test plan for a project from the KC-135 program and completed most of the work before I left. Searching for possible replacement parts, I contacted various suppliers. I communicated my findings with the customer through presentations and email.- Networked with fellow materials engineers to strengthen connections within the Air Force and specifically the AFMC.- I gained insight into the organizational differences between maintenance depots and more research-focused laboratories of the Air Force.Though it was for only three months, my time at WPAFB was a transformative one and one that has further motivated me to develop my mindset and skill set as an engineer.
