About Phoebe Jaffe
I want to spend my life making the world better, whether that's by working on important problems directly, or earning to give. I've spent many years as a front-end web developer, but am most motivated by problems that are difficult and important, and by people who are curious and kind. I'm a musician as well, and find the mathematical patterns that underlie music exciting. (For example, whole-tone scales, diminished chords, augmented chords, and tritones are symmetrical.)As for art and UI, I'm excited by the grey between black and white (in graphics), the space and time between A and B (in animation), and the area between sound and silence. It's the manipulation of the in-between that makes an animation or experience feel natural and satisfying. It can make a cropped edge look natural, or a simple piece of music inspire emotion. Exploring that subtlety in the art and code we create is something that especially interests me.If you're an effective altruist, send me a message to say hello.
