As a journalist, I saw the power of narrative not only to shine light on inequalities but also to ingrain and perpetuate them, and how our legal system both exacerbates existing mental health conditions and creates new ones. I pursued social work and law degrees so that I could become a more effective partner and advocate in the creation of new systems that better acknowledge everyone’s humanity and agency.
