Hello and welcome to my profile! I am a published writer and PhD in History and Political Science. I have over ten years of experience working with hundreds of students at the high school and college levels. I particularly relish working with students on crafting personal statements and supplementary essays for their applications to colleges and universities. In doing so, I draw years of experience working in higher education in multiple capacities to help students communicate effectively to admissions committees. As a teacher of writing at all levels, I help students generate original ideas, hone effective prose, develop the craft of research and structural organization, and have fun working through challenging projects. I am not just a scholar in a narrow academic area, but a curious, lifelong learner in all fields that touch upon humanity and its place in the natural world. As an educator, I am energetic, adaptive, kind, and patient. I love teaching students of all levels and have spent years perfecting pedagogical strategies that individualize instruction to each learner’s unique needs, learning styles, and interests. My high school students have demonstrated dramatic and measurable improvements in exams and SAT verbal scores, and have crafted uniquely creative personal statements and supplementary essays for their college applications. For college undergraduates and graduate students, I have provided cutting edge instruction that is also fun, whether the goal is to complete a long research paper, thesis, or article, or simply to excel in coursework in the humanities and social sciences.
