I am a speciality trainee in Rheumatology, with concurrent interests in sports and exercise medicine/expedition medicine.Since qualifying 7 years ago, I have been nominated for the Royal Society of Medicine Trainee of the Year award (2018), passed a postgraduate certificate in Medical Education at the University of Cambridge with Distinction and started my first work outside of the NHS as a wilderness/expedition medic following training with the World Extreme Medicine organisation in 2019. This primarily involved support of athletic events, through the charity Action Challenge, where I provided medical support to two separate ultramarathons in 2019 and then subsequently on an international trip to Kilimanjaro. This led to further work with Endeavour Medical, where I work as a faculty member, teaching expedition medicine to colleagues undertaking the company courses. I continue to undertake expedition work, last visiting the Canadian Yukon with the British Exploring Society in summer 2023 as the Senior Medical Leader. I have found the experience of working outside the NHS to be complementary to my work within it and would be delighted to explore this option further.During my training in rheumatology, I am pursuing some key elements at present to support this, namely completing the membership exams for the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine and undertaking training in musculoskeletal ultrasound.
