Carbon13’s Venture Builder is for founders who are pre-investment, pre-team, or even pre-idea. Potential founders bring talent and commitment to reducing CO₂e emissions. Carbon13 brings the experience and network to make it happen. Joined as a technical founder hoping to apply my research experience to develop novel hardware solutions to the climate crisis.

In 2020, The Resilience Project began to create accessible and scalable mental health and leadership support for young people taking action for the climate crisis. This has been done supporting 23 peer support Resilience Circles in the UK and EU, with more planned internationally. These peer support groups are designed to improve the resilience in young climate activists. In addition to this work, The Resilience Project conducts research with academic partners at Imperial College and Unversity College London to better understand eco-anxiety. The findings are regularly presented at international conferences, recently New York Climate Week 2024 and the Inner Development Goals Summit 2024.Brought on to assist grant applicatons. Raised over £40,000 through applications to philanthropic funds which have driven business growth. These applications have required the identification of key performance indicators and financial plans to outline how the funds will be spent.

Retained duty firefighter (RDS) with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, helping provide emergency fire and rescue service to the local community. Attending to fires, road traffic collisions, rescue of persons, floods, incidents involving hazardous materials, and more. Non-operational duties include delivery of community safety programmes, education on fire safety, provision of home fire safety visits, delivery of water safety and prevention of wildfire advice.Began this as an antedote to the inherent isolation of the PhD write-up process but have found it as a source of great pride. The RDS system is designed as secondary employment to work flexibly around primary work.

An Investigation into Combined Internal and External CoolingGas turbine manufacturers are increasingly feeling the pressure from governments and regulators to reduce emissions. Used on aircraft and within power generation, emissions can be reduced across a number of industries with an increase in efficiency. One area of increased efficiency can be found within the cooling systems used to protect the components of the turbine. Few studies have explored the combined effects of the two techniques used in cooling, meaning that designers will over-cool an engine at the expense of turbine efficiency.This project aims to use novel modelling and imaging techniques to experimentally determine the combined effects of blade cooling within gas turbines. Providing validation data to designers, allowing lower rates of cooling and higher engine efficiencies.
