In the Fall of 2018 I completed my chemical engineering PhD at the Georgia Institute of Technology while working in the research group of Dr. Anant K. Paravastu. My research focused on structural characterization of self-assembling peptides and peptide analogues using solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance. After my graduation I chose to teach to teach middle school before beginning my engineering career. I had volunteered with a middle school baseball team for three seasons and with the youth group of my church for a year at that point. My faith in God defines who I am, and I wanted to take time to serve in this role while I knew I had the opportunity. I worked as a paraprofessional at Inman Middle School of Atlanta Public Schools for a semester, and after passing the required certification tests, I was hired at North Gwinnett Middle School to teach seventh grade standard math. It has been quite the adventure, not least of all because of school closures due to Covid-19 and a very rapid transition to digital learning. I have learned a great deal in this position, especially in developing my communication skills. My time as a teacher has given me the utmost respect for teachers and administrators. They do an astounding amount of incredibly difficult work day-in and day-out. Is it truly something you must be called to do. Even though I am not pursuing a career as a teacher, I would like to continue serving youth in some capacity. In a perfect world, I could take my work to schools and show it off to get students excited for science and engineering.I will be beginning my engineering career in the fall of 2020, and I look forward to bringing my knowledge and skills into the technical spheres of industry.
