Shell refinery for the summer of 2023 and accomplished the following~- Lead an engineering project to redesign 2 heat exchangers in the distillation unit of the PEMEX | EX. Shell refinery that has had accelerated corrosion, fouling, & heat transfer issues affecting their mechanical integrity. This problem has been happening since 1984.- Heat exchanger metallurgy, tube wall thickness, & process environment redesign lead to potential savings of over $33MM with the current margins, as well as priceless process quality, safety, & environmental benefits.————————————————————————————*The rest is from my experience listed below:*- Regularly collaborated and lead meetings with process, chemical, petroleum, mechanical engineers, & inspectors to determine the best process environment redesign solution from P&IDs & Radical view to extend the lifetime of the 2 heat exchangers outside of mechanical engineering solutions.- Collaborated and met with senior & material engineer/metallurgist to determine the best metallurgy upgrade for the current process conditions (heat transfer rate & mechanical integrity).- Prepared an upgrade specification sheet to then reach out for quotes to approved heat exchanger manufactures.- Performed a life cycle cost analysis to evaluate & choose the best option between the current vs new design.- Presented an end of term engineering presentation to the vice president of engineering along with other senior & unit manager engineers to share assessment finds and best path forward.
