Lusaka Zambia

This involved an assesment of all actors of sanitation activities in two slums of Lusaka. After 20 days field mision meeting all the partners, surveying the actual pit emptiers and facilities and finding unit prices for each step toward re-use sludge in the form of by-product, several decentralized solutions using local operation and maintenance skills have been developped.

Beni, Democratic Republic Of Congo

This involved an analysis of water tanks and water web management in the city of Béni. After a complete reporting on the way to repear all the problems found on these 46 watertanks, several concepts of low costs water tanks have been designed, all adapted to local masons capacity and products available.

Pnom Penh, Cambodia

Responsibilities included 1) design of the “easy shower”, enabling rural eco-sanitation technology to be sold without subsidies and consequently to be introduced into a sanitation marketing program; 2) Training of small entrepreneurs in low cost water treatment methods 3) the design and implementation of a low cost rainwater tank adapted to arsenic oriented program; 4) design and implementation of a low cost sludge treatment plant, with newly adapted methods of extraction and a sustainable business approach; 4) the development of a handbook and videos associated with the designs and projects to allow easy disemmination of information and 5) Consultancy with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on analysis of faecal sludge extraction and treatment in Cambodia.

Pnom Phen, Cambodia

This involved participation on the implementation of the first sanitation marketing program in Cambodia. Responsibilities included 1) the development of the design and low-costs production techniques for the “Easy Latrine”, a low-cost pour-flush latrine, 2) field-testing of the latrine, 3) training local masons in latrine production, 4) help setting up the program in the early stages, and 5) making a video to introduce the project 6) helping the development of the ceramic filter program. The Easy Latrine was designed to be specifically adapted to Cambodia, and by end 2011, 15,000 “easy latrines” have been purchased without any hard subsidies.

Annaba, Algeria: Waste water treatment station (580 000 EqH). Budget: 80 million euros.This involved 1) the development of a new program to physically and financially track the project using MS-project, 2) training six local technicians in the program, and 3) monthly reports for the ministry of water and water supply.Bata, Equatorial Guinea: Water supply project (pipes of 35 km, diam 900 cm, 1,2 m3/s).This involved 1) creating a technical study and drawings of pipe installations, 2) the design of a riverside pumping station, 3) a hydrological study of the M’bini river basin, including calculations of the lower water levels over 100 years, 4) field trips to assess the river level curves, 5) design and diagrams of all water supply elements (flow control valves, suction valve, waterhammer protections, etc).
