Prior to starting my Education degree, I completed an electrical apprenticeship through All Trades QLD. In my last two blocks of TAFE I found myself absorbing the content quickly and was able to apply these learnings with correct application. My peers noticed how readily I absorbed this content and asked for assistance in tutoring the concepts. This was my first positive taste of how teaching could feel. I found myself tutoring my fellow apprentices on the course content and encouragingly, this assistance proved helpful for them to pass the assessments. My goal from that point on was to work in my trade until I was confident enough to go back to TAFE as an instructor. But things change. After I had worked in my trade for a period of time, I realised that my original goal could grow to other forms of education. So, I assessed my personal situation at the time and decided if I were to make a professional career change - now would be the time. I had no financial or family constraints keeping me from progressing to further education. I left my trade and began my Bachelors in Secondary Education. Throughout my degree I experienced and learnt much, including the skill of adaptability. This adaptability was put to the test thoroughly as my studies progressed during the time of the global pandemic. Throughout this period of learning I focused on my teaching areas, revitalising my love of science through university content. In addition, I honed my skills as a tradesperson through my part time job as a trade assistant for Wild Industries. It was for these reasons I chose to specialise in Biology and Design Technology. While on placements I realised the growing need for Industrial technology (wood and metal work) teachers and I was fortunate enough to teach a variety of technology classes ranging from year 8-11. I have a passion for the trade-based subjects and I find real pleasure working with the students and hopefully passing on some of my knowledge that I acquired in the construction industry.
