Profile bio

About Benjamin Cowell

I am the Legal Services Manager at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust; a department where I previously worked in back in 2014-2016, and having worker in the predecessor department back in 2008. I am extremely proud to work for YAS and love working with fantastic colleagues. I am a trainee solicitor and have obtained my master's degree in Law, with distinction. I have sat and passed my Solicitor's Qualifying Examination (SQE) Part 1, and am currently studying for SQE Part 2. Once I have passed SQE Part 2, I am able to be admitted as a practising solicitor. Prior to returning to YAS, I was the Trust's Risk & DATIX Manager at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and within this role I also managed the clinical claims, inquests and access the health records for the Trust. As DATIX Manager, I was the Trust's System Manager for the DATIX system - an incident, risk management, complaints and record management system. Before joining Chesterfield Royal, I was the Litigation & Inquests Manager at South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and a Legal Services Coordinator at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust. Before joining the NHS, I had various roles within the police; I spent six years as an operational, uniformed police constable with West Yorkshire Police along with being a Special Constable with the British Transport Police and a Police Community Support Officer with Northumbria Police. During my six years as a PC, I have been first on scene and assumed initial command and control of incidents such as burglary, assaults, criminal damage, public order incidents and injury road traffic collisions. The majority of these calls for service were under 'emergency' conditions - requiring an immediate response, often facing violence, weapons and injuries - some often self-inflicted. I was also a specially trained officer who was deployed to reports of rape and serious sexual assaults and attended a high number of these incidents. I have also been first on scene on serious assaults - some of which have resulted in fatal injuries. Latterly of my service with the police I was crime manager for my team, conducting a number of investigations simultaneously, obtaining and preserving evidence, conducting criminal interviews and submitting court files to the CPS.

Listed skills include Police, Criminal Investigations, Investigation, Office Administration, and 10 others.
