Senior Aquarist & Technician
CurrentMonash University is home to the research facility known as Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute. Within that institute is our AquaCore facility. Aquacore is the largest zebrafish facility of its kind in the southern hemisphere, consisting of 1000 quarantine tanks and 5200 main facility tanks (non quarantine). AquaCore is also currently running systems to house various aquatic organisms for research, with the intention of developing larger scale facilities in the future.My position as Senior Aquarist and Technician, is to work with my colleagues and researchers to ensure that research goals are achieved whilst upholding the highest form of animal husbandry and ethics. These responsibilities include:-Provide a high level of husbandry for various fresh and saltwater aquatic species for Aquacore research facility -Conducting breeding programs-Diet construction and execution -Culture of planktonic species -Heath relative practices-Water quality analysis-Maintenance of and aquariums, plant room, and aquarium tech -Training/Supervising new staff, work placement students and colleagues-Upholding OHS standards and practices-Conducting tours of the facility and giving presentations on our work-Working with colleagues, researchers and lab heads to achieve husbandry and research goals-Abide by ethics SOPs and work with various organisations to ensure the facility is conducting -practices in the appropriate manner-Purchasing/Ordering products for facility-Packing/Shipping animals both internationally and interstate-Attending conferences and other events with organisations to share knowledge about practices and network
