In this role I managed all and work performed by staff and volunteers at a large warehouse building. The building housed three shops and was also where bulk purchased or donated building materials were stored. In the first of the three shops I oversaw the work performed largely by volunteers of house framing components (window and door frames, large headers and beams etc.) and more recently wall panelization. In the second shop all auto and equipment maintenance was performed and I personally did the majority of this work along with an excellent volunteer assistant. The affiliate is quite large and so owned around a dozen vehicles and a few pieces of equipment, along with associated trailers and attachments. All of this was repaired (no matter how severe the damage) in this shop. The third shop space was dedicated to metal fabrication. Again I preformed most of the work done in this area. No volunteers were involved due to the danger of fire and explosion but I did have the good fortune of coworkers who were interested and willing to be trained on the simpler welding and fabrication processes. This job was incredibly varied with the three shops outlined above and warehousing of materials being the bulk of the work. I also sat on the Construction Safety committee and formed and chaired the Construction Best Practices committee. It was a wonderful although an all consuming job. I couldn't have asked for better volunteers, coworkers, AmeriCorps members, and families to serve. Helping to provide families of lesser means with affordable housing is a wonderful mission and work that I intend to stay involved with both professionally and personally.
