My name is Benjamin Doucet, and I am a Level 1 Apprentice at BCIT in the Carpentry Foundations Program. I have always admired the work that carpenters do, and that is why I hope to achieve my Red Seal certificate and secure a career in carpentry. I have always been interested in woodshop and I enjoyed hands on work, which resulted in me finding summer work in the carpentry field. Last summer, I had the opportunity to work as a Carpenter for Koffler Built Homes. In this position, I was involved in basic foundation building, and helping the main carpenters. I gained a lot from this work experience, not just skills such as forming concrete and learning how a worksite runs, but also life lessons in responsibility and work ethic. By putting in long hours and hard work, as well as being willing to learn, this experience became one of my most valuable work experiences to date, as it made me a more reasonable and disciplined worker. Along with work experience, I have always been passionate about volunteering and hockey. I started as a volunteer coach with Inside Edge Hockey Training, and have progressed my way up to coaching elite spring teams for Jr. Steelers Hockey Club and running development programs such as power skating and technical skills. Coaching many kids, of all different ages and skills, has taught me a lot about how to work with individuals and the importance of teamwork. I worked my way up from volunteering to running programs, in which I demonstrated a strong work ethic and determination skills. In interacting with so many people during my coaching, I have strengthened both my communication and leadership skills that I believe are invaluable in a workplace. Through my experiences in carpentry and my coaching experience, I have developed both techinical and interpersonal skills that make me an asset in the workplace. I approach every situation with a positive attitude and 100% work ethic to ensure that every task I complete is to the best of my ability.
