About Benjamin Dunks

I have been doing a wide range of work over the past 30 years. I started in Dance, performing for 10 years before managing a National Portfolio Dance company for 7 years, working across all aspects of education, from Nursery to Post-Grad, teaching in Uni departments as diverse as Dance, Medicine, Education and Theatre. During this timeI developed a primary school dance programme that I subsequently partnered with Create Development to build as real Dance, now part of their real PE canon. My real Dance programme is now in 2000+ schools across the UK with tens of thousands of young people dancing because of it this year. I explored immersive technologies, working with motion capture and accelerometry to measure and evaluate my Renaissance Movement and Strength Programme, a falls prevention programme for older people. In 2022 I published my first book, 'Intimacy, a guide for young men about sex' and as a result of that book I now work in Schools and Colleges across Plymouth and Devon to support schools to tackle misogyny and harassment, what I now call sexual bullying. In 2024 I published my second book, 'Men and Menopause: A guide for the bewildered'.In April 2022 I started work with Synergen Met Ltd, an environment and energy company based in Brisbane, Australia as the lead on their Social Media. I continue to work with them to this day, now covering Business Development in the US and Europe alongside Social Media and a variety of other needs as they arise. I am a very proud member of MANCulture Plymouth, a group of guys who have come together to begin to tackle male violence against women and girls.

I have published a book and I need all your help to get it out there. It isn’t a novel, it isn’t science fiction, it isn’t a biography of a dead white guy….. I have written a book about sex aimed at young men. It is called ‘Intimacy. A guide for young men about sex’. It is aimed at 16-22 yr old blokes. This has taken me 4 years to write and is my response to the fact that this is the first generation in history to grow up with access to 24hr porn, the reality of sexual assault that is happening to young women while in intimate encounters with young men as a result of watching that porn, and the total lack of strong, clear and non-apologetic information that is out there for this specific cohort of young people. Alongside this, we as a society have a deficit model of viewing young people, and in particular young men. One of the main impacts of this is that we shame them relentlessly for watching porn and have an attitude that they are all sexual predators in waiting, all while doing nothing to help them find their sexual way.The through line for the whole book is that if guys focus on their partner’s pleasure while in an intimate encounter, they will be doing the opposite of what porn has taught them, they won’t assault anyone, and they will have a wonderful time.I am deeply passionate about this book and want it to go far and wide and have had mums, members of the medical establishment, family and friends all read it. They all love it. The book is available currently on Amazon Kindle. What I need you to do is go on Amazon and buy it or recommend it to friends or family or anyone you think will find it useful. It is better for the Amazon algorithms if you go to Amazon and in the search bar type ‘Ben Dunks Intimacy’. But if you want to go straight there, here is a link. If and when you read it, please review it. The more reviews, the more impact you can have. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Inti.../dp/B0BFK22HKW/ref=sr_1_1...

Tackle are a new brand of Sports Underwear for Blokes. After years of trying to find sports pants that keep 'everything' supported and always being disappointed, my amazing wife and I decided it was time to create our own pants to solve the issue. And this is TACKLE. Two variations. HARD TACKLE is a heavier weight fabric and for sports and movement professionals, or for those working physically, in the building industry, in a kitchen, you name it. Then we have SOFT TACKLE, which is a lighter fabric and is a wear-all-day pair, easier for relaxing but also great to move in. Check out Kickstarter and pledge to get a couple of pairs. You won't be disappointed.

Renaissance is an immersive falls prevention programme, designed for vulnerable older people living in Sheltered Accommodation and paid for by Housing Associations. At its heart is a movement programme that will be delivered by Housing Association Carers through an interactive platform. It is a programme that will fundamentally change the heath of all who experience it alongside decreasing their chances of falling. Our Prototyping Project is an ambitious set of three different programmes that will ultimately support the success of Renaissance.1) In partnership with CAMERA at Bath University we will Motion Capture 6 participants from Bath Sheltered Housing as they go through our movement programme across 6 weeks, one session/week. This will demonstrate change in participant movement, validating the programme as suitable for falls prevention.2) Plymouth Community Homes, our partner in the development of Renaissance, work with sensors embedded into resident armchairs, measuring activity levels. We will work with 3 cohorts of participants in Plymouth, using accelerometers to measure movement in sessions and linking this to residential data to help evaluate session impact.3) We will work with PCH Carers, participants and senior managers to design, test and iterate their experiences across the programme ensuring the prototype meets needs. This is an ambitious prototyping programme. The team working on it has been working together in these areas for 2 years. We have done all the pre-work we can and are ready to do extraordinary things with this funding.About the TeamThe team behind Renaissance is Ben Dunks, dance/movement artist, trainer and SWCTN Fellow, Emma McFarland, Digital and Innovation Producer and Christopher Hunt, Creative Technologist and Digital Artist. They have worked together for 2 years through Attik Dance and bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and excitement to the project.
