About Benjamin Durkin
I was born to rig and I've been doing it my whole life.As a child I would take apart my toys and modify my bicycles. In high school I studied wood shop, metal shop, drafting and graphic arts which was the first time I was exposed to 3D software. I also rebuilt motorcycle engines and worked on a framing crew building houses after school and during the summers. I loved building things and to my families dismay taking them apart.I went on to study Industrial Arts in college where state of the art fabrication labs with CNC machines were at my disposal, I felt like I could make anything. A few years after finishing my undergrad I started studying computer animation and the rest is history. Like most students in my animation school I wanted to be an animator but life had something else in mind. I had a knack for rigging and it wasn't long before I was offering advice about the subject to other students and even staff members. I attribute my uncanny sense for rigging to the skills I learned at a young age dissecting toys, building models and drafting and fabricating parts on CNC machines. For all my natural talent I know I have not gotten here on my own. I've been very lucky throughout my career to have had great mentors and colleagues who have guided, challenged and encouraged me to keep growing as a technical artist.
