As a member of Dr. Bill Pavan's group (Genetic Disease Research Branch, NHGRI), my work focused on AAV-based gene therapy for the rare neurodegenerative disease Niemann-Pick disease, type C (NPC). I worked on generating and testing new therapeutic AAV vectors both in vitro and in vivo in murine models of NPC using a variety of techniques, including both behavioral analysis and molecular and tissue assays to assess and improve the efficacy of new approaches to treatment.
