I love language. I love dissecting the ways people communicate with each other, examining the nuances of stories, paragraphs, sentences, words, sounds. The effects those words can create. How the effect can be tweaked or nudged by making even small changes. My passion for language is what attracted me to the linguistic arts.I have a Bachelor of Arts in English from New York University, where I honed my deep research abilities, writing for diverse audiences, and analytical skills. While there, I also developed an interest in the study of linguistics. In addition to my linguistics courses, I have 5 years of training in the French and Japanese languages. I am now a detail-oriented machine learning data linguist with over five years of experience in the technology industry, with expertise in data analysis, machine learning, and technical writing.As a Machine Learning Data Linguist at Amazon, I annotate, label, and verify linguistic data to support the development of Alexa's natural language processing (NLP) and text-to-speech (TTS) abilities. On average, I have maintained a quality bar of 97% accuracy. In addition to collaborating with other linguists and stakeholders on annotation workflows, I am also responsible for researching, developing, and maintaining our extensive technical guidelines and standard operating procedures to ensure our practices meet our high quality standards. Currently, I am responsible for over 3 dozen documents across 15 different locales, with in-depth linguistic research and guidance on 21 different languages. Additionally, I have experience working with generative AI in the form of large language models (LLMs) and human-computer interaction (HCI) projects, where I leveraged my extensive experience in the linguistic arts and research skills to evaluate our model's accuracy, appropriateness, and responsiveness to end-user interactions. My other skills include project management, training peers in new workflows, and editing/publishing software such as MadCap Flare, Microsoft Office, and CAT tools.In my free time, I enjoy various board and card games such as shogi, Oceans, mahjong, briscola and Inis. I am an aspiring writer and am currently working on a horror novel about scuba diving marine biology students. More recently, I am teaching myself how to play the piano.I am currently seeking new opportunities in the fields of linguistics, machine learning, and technical writing, with a preference for virtual roles.
