Growing up in Detroit, having lived in Flint MI, Corning NY, Los Angeles CA and Ann Arbor MI, Benjamin has had the opportunity to be exposed to many different people, places, and sets of knowledge. He started work as a theatre technician where he worked for 4 years, leaving as master carpenter and stage deck chief of his final theatrical production, gaining both the knowledge of traditional structure & finish carpentry as well as how to lead a large group of people. He then switched crafts to glassblowing where he started working at the FIA which lead to his attending college at the University of Michigan-Flint. From here, he split his time being a student and working as a glassblower & glass shop technician, bringing his knowledge of physics & engineering to the traditionally artistic environment of the glass studio. By bringing a more academic understanding of glass to the teaching environment, Benjamin introduced new methods of teaching that allow students to learn faster than ever before. He also worked as an SI leader in the UM-Flint physics department, teaching with and learning from Professor Vaziri. Summer 2019 he learned new skills of communication while working at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning New York while both leading glassblowing demonstrations as gaffer, and narrating to crowds upwards of 200 people. Benjamin then transferred to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor to finish his degree in mechanical engineering, graduating Winter 2023. While there, he joined MASA where he helped mentor students on principals of DFMA and brought his fabrication experience during a much needed summer when MASA was attempting to test their space-shot rocket’s propulsion system. He helped machine key components for their regen rocket engine, welded test fixtures & oxidizer tanks, and helped get their new trailer into functioning condition. Through this work, Benjamin found himself then working at the Arc Boat Company as a Vehicle Engineer Intern where he had the opportunity to learn many new skills as well as provide valuable engineering services to the early startup on their way to producing fully electric consumer boats. After graduation Benjamin returned to the Arc Boat Company as a full time vehicle engineer to continue this work.Overall Benjamin looks for ways to apply his skills of problem solving and to combine his knowledge and understanding of engineering, fabrication, and the world in order to improve the lives of himself and those around him.
