Profile bio

About Benjamin Hatchett

I work on a range of topics pertaining to weather and climate extremes in the past, present, and future and their impacts on human and natural systems spanning scales from minutes to millennia, nanometers to an Earth's circumference. I am now focused on issues surrounding wildland fire from both physical and social science perspectives. This transition was motivated by becoming involved with community fire in northern California thanks to Fire Forward, the Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance, and the Good Fire Alliance in 2022 and years like 2013, 2017, 2020, and 2021. I intend to support two goals: 1) improve our capacity across key scales and contexts to safely return beneficial (good) fire at appropriate return intervals to ensure healthy and thriving landscape, and2) mitigate the negative impacts of wildland fire and smoke on communities, ecosystems, and economies. Achieving these goals requires transdisciplinary collaborative efforts with a diverse collection of people from all backgrounds spending time together and alone in the field, in the laboratory, and on the computer. These efforts will generate positive change towards a fire-ready world where it's more likely to be cool when it's certainly hot.

Listed skills include Arcgis, Meteorology, Matlab, Environmental Science, and 15 others.
