Benjamin Hellman received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Violin Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, as well as a post graduate degree in Music Education from Manhattanville College. His teachers have included David Tobey, Byung Kook Kwak, Patinka Kopec, and Lisa Kim of the New York Philharmonic, with additional coaching and collaborations with the former Concert Master of the NY Philharmonic Glenn Dicterow, Charles Castleman, Amnon Levy of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Laurie Carney, Daniel Avshalomov, Pamela Frank, Sally Thomas, Peter Salaff and Zvi Zeitlin, among others. He has also been a recipient of violin concerto awards in his formative years. His virtuosity has been acclaimed in the New York Times. Mr. Hellman's appearances in the New York area, as well as other parts of the country and abroad, have included solo recitals, concertos, chamber music, and orchestral performances at Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, St. John the Divine, Constitution Hall, The Emelin Theatre, and Tanglewood. Through his extensive orchestral experience, he has played under the baton of Charles Dutoit, Kurt Masur, Pierre Boulez, Sidney Harth, Gerard Schwarz, Zdenek Macal, Alexander Lazarev, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Sergiu Commisiona, Julius Rudel, Michael Gilbert and David Gilbert, among others. He has performed regularly with The Symphony of Westchester, Greenwich Symphony, Binghamton Philharmonic, Yonkers Philharmonic, Berkshire Opera Orchestra, New Jersey State Opera Orchestra, and New Rochelle Opera Orchestra. He has also subbed with the New York City Opera orchestra, Harrisburg Symphony, Albany Symphony, and the New World Symphony. He has also played chamber music extensively throughout the country. His diversified musical performances have extended to accompanying Shania Twain on the Rosie O Donnell Show and also making a music video for one of her songs. His chamber music has been featured on the radio station WVIA in Pennsylvania.
