Building on my Coal fired Power station experience and time at Staythorpe CCGT, I took a position at Didcot B CCGT Power Station. This allowed me to increase my knowledge and experience of the operations while taking part in practical maintenance tasks. This position also required having a knowledge, understanding and ability to interrogate logic within the DCS system. As well as getting involved in the safety from the system, becoming a designated person. (authorised person)

Following on from my experience as a Plant attendant, I progressed onto assistant unit operator. I assist the unit operator in running the unit safely, efficiently and with the best performance possible, while operating within stringent environmental limits. I carry out plant checks and readings to monitor plant performance and highlight any potential Issues. I communicate with the operator and control engineer to ensure plant issues are communicated fully. Also assisting in the safe and efficient operation of boilers, turbines and all associated plant, including fuel-handling systems required to generate electricity at Aberthaw, working under company safety rules. I am currently a fire team member, permit accepter. designated person under company safety rules, breathing apparatus wearer and advanced first aider.. Working in a variety of situations to ensure safety, environmental and production objectives are achieved.

Having learned the process of coal fired generation, I’ve moved to a more modern CCGT station. This has allowed me to learn a new generation process, with new challenges, utilizing a different fuel, and modern technology. I was involved in the monitoring, and operating of the 4 Gas fired units safely and efficiently as possible.

With this role, I found a great opportunity to switch careers from an office based to a more practical and hands on role. It had been my aim to work within the power industry since working for Trant construction in 2008 at Aberthaw. My responsibilities include carrying out essential running and pre-start checks, as well as assisting the unit operator wherever necessary. I am also tasked with running the water treatment plant solely, this involves operating a number of different pieces of equipment and an understanding of process flow systems to produce the de-ionised water required for the main plant to run.

I started with Enterprise on their management trainee scheme, working in a number of locations, Including Swansea, Bridgend and finishing at Cardiff airport.Responsibilities include:-Training and development of a management team which includes graduate trainees and interns as well as others.Control and responsibility for all aspects of the income statement (profit and loss) including core areas of increasing profits and reducing costs.Assist with the management of local business accounts, with the aim of increasing their business levels with the company as well as generating new business leads.Drive continued sales through accountability, training and performance reviews.Going above and beyond to ensure both customers and employees have the highest possible satisfaction levels regarding their enterprise experience at all times.
