Directly responsible for supporting the air portion of the Environmental Team in maintaining compliance with our TCEQ air permit, as well as other environmental-related tasks supporting the waste and water sides of the Environmental Team. Primary responsibilities include the creation, oversight, and organization of a daily electrolyte waste FID monitoring program. Mapping of all permitted emission point numbered equipment (both inside the facility at their origin sources and on the roof at their exhaust emission points). The installation and maintenance of TCEQ-required air permit notification signs around the neighborhoods surrounding the facility. Monthly air-quality inspections, including 15+ natural draft opening (NDO) inspections and 7+ Audio/Visual/Olfactory (AVO) inspections. Quarterly Method 9 Visible Emissions inspections of all rooftop emission points on-site at the Gigafactory. Additionally, provided assistance with the water portion of the Environmental Team by organizing multiple weekly, monthly, and quarterly sampling programs from our on-site wastewater treatment plant and collecting all of the associated samples and the waste portion of the Environmental Team by organizing and conducting monthly Subpart BB+CC Inspections of electrolyte waste equipment. All work is completed utilizing professional judgement, often requiring coordination with other teams on-site at Tesla, communication with outside vendors/contractors, interpretation of air permit rules and governmental regulations, and any related, necessary training of other employees.

Conducted quarterly quality assurance and performance evaluation audits, utilizing NIST-traceable equipment to confirm operation within EPA Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) monitoring guidelines of 300+ ambient air monitoring samplers and analyzers across the contiguous US for 15+ government and private air monitoring networks. Audits were conducted on NAAQS criteria gas analyzers (NOx, O3, SO2, CO), other pollutant analyzers (reduced sulfur, NOy, methane, and non-methane hydrocarbons), PAMS GC-FID systems, SRI GC systems, particulate matter samplers (PM2.5, PM10, total suspended particulate, and speciation), and meteorological sensors (wind direction, wind speed, solar radiation, net radiation, barometric pressure, and relative humidity). Additionally, served as lab manager for the quality assurance laboratory, maintaining accurate inventories, ensuring proper function of all audit equipment, and ordering supplies as needed. Outside of my primary responsibilities on the Quality Assurance Team, I cross trained with our Operations Team and Data Validation Team to assist with daily/monthly data validation, problem identification, monitoring site design and construction, and repair of analyzers and sensors. I also had the opportunity to relocate and participate in a special multi-month environmental remediation effort outside of the contiguous US for a confidential federal project.

As head of the metals digestion department for the Austin and Corpus Christi labs, I prepared hundreds of environmental samples from Fortune 500 chemical, petroleum, and waste disposal companies using EPA methods for trace metal analysis via ICP-AES and ICP-MS instrumentation, daily. Additionally, I also was responsible for conducting wet chemistry tests, including pH, alkalinity, electrical conductance, moisture content, ash content, and specific gravity, on samples of various matrices (soils, wastewater, oils, etc.). Company was sold, acquired, and restructured two months after hiring.

Served as the senior student staff member for the UT OnRamps dual-enrollment program’s science division. Advised/developed curriculum, assisted in laboratory implementation, and formatted course websites for two chemistry courses, two physics courses and their corresponding labs, and one geology course and its lab. This program comprised of 392 high school campuses across Texas (serving over 38,000 students), allowed me to develop strong Microsoft Excel skills through gradebook data management, HTML and LaTeX coding knowledge through website formatting, and a deeper understanding of pedagogy through management in the program across multiple, complete course cycles.
