Ben leads WaypointKLA’s Pittsburgh presence where he is focused on developments in Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and Western New York.

Ben led Piatt Companies' multifaceted team of real estate development and construction professionals with a focus on the transformative Ohio riverfront Esplanade project on Pittsburgh’s North Side. Esplanade will be a $1 billion mixed-use development with over three million square feet of residential and commercial space and will be home for 1000 residents and 1.5 annual visitors.

I directed project management staff and consultants in shepherding projects from inception through design and construction. This includes directing due diligence activities, pro forma evaluation, budget and schedule creation, public and government engagement, contract negotiation, drawing reviews, and coordinating construction management activities. I began my career with Oxford in 2008 where I also acted as Project Manager and Owner’s Representative specializing in contract management, budgeting, and scheduling for corporations, medical facilities, and non-profits. Additionally, I managed and directed the construction of three large tax credit-financed low-income housing developments in the Pittsburgh region. I worked with a diverse client list, including Children’s Hospital Pittsburgh, UPMC, PNC Bank, Allegheny Health Network, Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services, The Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh Sports and Exhibition Authority, and NRG Energy. My expertise has been utilized in Oxford’s own portfolio, including managing intensive design review, permitting, and public processes associated with all of its high-profile development projects, which included commercial office, hospitality, and multi-family residential. With a background in urban planning and economic development, I take a holistic and pragmatic approach to projects that acknowledges both the financial and human impacts of construction and development. This approach has been applied by Oxford, and clients faced with uniquely challenging projects. These include major land planning and redevelopment efforts such as Pittsburgh’s former Civic Arena, the 178-acre ALMONO site, the creation of 3-Crossings in the Strip District, and various multi-family and commercial urban infill projects.
