Benjamin Maat is the portfolio manager of the TSM and MTA strategies at Gresham Investment Management. Before joining Gresham Investment Management, Benjamin was a senior portfolio manager at the discretionary global macro team at Blenheim Capital Management. Before that, Benjamin was Head of the liquid commodity fund at APG Asset Management. He started as an analyst and became a commodities portfolio manager in 2006. On average the team managed about USD 14 billion in his final year. He has experience in managing long only "optimal"​ commodity exposure in the most efficient way for the client given liquidity and risk limitation restrictions, so called "smart beta"​. Benjamin was responsible for the "focused alpha"​ strategies such as the inhouse actively managed long-short commodity mandate; and hedge fund screening, selection and monitoring. Benjamin holds a Master of Science in Business Administration degree in Finance from Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He also earned the CFA and CAIA designation. Benjamin has published in the Journal of Financial Economics and The New York Times. Benjamin has participated in Pira’s Crude Oil seminar (London, 2007; Geneva 2012) and Natural Gas seminar (Houston, 2008). He also participated in the ABC of Mining organized by Behre Dolbear (Toronto, 2010), spoke at the World Commodities Week conference (London, 2011), lectured at the International Summer School on "Risk Measurement and Control" (Sapienza, Rome, 2012) and peer-reviewed an article for the Journal of International Money & Finance in 2012.
