I have been working for Nexia for over two years now. In that time, I have been given a vast amount of responsibility on several of our larger clients. In particular, I was given sole responsibility in preparing the monthly management report for our division’s largest client. This involved consolidating a number of excel spreadsheets together to prepare the 100+ page report, through the use of a number of formulae including: If Functions, V Lookup, Array, Forecasts & charts. Also the job involved attending the finance meeting with the client, and dealing with the employees of the client on a daily basis as well as one on one meetings with new & existing employees of the client to train them in how the reports are prepared.Nexia has also given me the opportunity to improve in my technical, communication & leadership skills through training (excel, MYOB, soft skills), running training courses, CA leaders program, mentoring staff in my team, assisting a manager in the team with their Business Development role for a certain are of a division and starting up the Business Development team for staff below Supervisor level within the Business Advisory division which was extremely well received.

Over my 2 and a half year career as a graduate/intermediate accountant, I developed an in-depth knowledge of practical, technical & theoretical skills of accounting. I was given a lot of responsibility & my own clients, which meant I needed to take ownership of my work from the start to finish of the job rather than just a part of the whole job. The change to a smaller work environment meant I had to adapt & enhance my communication skills in order to suit the more personal approach the firm offered to their clients. My communication skills also increased with one on one meetings with high net worth clients, and participating in and chairing tax meetings every 3 weeks within the accounting firms on our floor.Working in a small chartered accounting firm allowed me to further build on & improve my word, excel, MYOB and other technical accounting skills.In addition, I was responsible for a marketing role within the firm. I single-handedly set up the website for the company, which had been on the backburner for a couple of years before I was employed. I also dealt directly with the partner to brainstorm ways in which to improve the image and branding of the company, which included setting up the company newsletter. This resulted in increased business for the company.
