As an Institutional Researcher at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU), Ben has over twelve years of experience in Higher Education (HE) with expertise in Monitoring, Evaluation, and Institutional Research. His role focuses on statutory reporting for the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), producing quarterly, mid-year, and annual reports that ensure SMU’s alignment with national and institutional objectives. These reports provide insights into the university’s performance on ministerial targets, strategic objectives, and critical operational areas, including governance, financial sustainability, and risk management.Beyond reporting, Ben leads institutional research projects and benchmarking initiatives that underpin evidence-based decision-making and strategic planning. With a strong background in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, he ensures rigorous data analysis and the integration of research insights into SMU’s operational and strategic frameworks. Additionally, Ben currently serves as the Treasurer on the Executive Committee (EXCO) for the Southern African Association for Institutional Research (SAAIR) and is a member of the Community of Practice (COP) at the Council on Higher Education (CHE).
