“The capacity to learn is a gift; The ability to learn is a skill; The willingness to learn is a choice.” – Brian HerbertAll of my life has been inspired by a passionate pursuit of curiosity, whether I am inspired to learn something new or assisting others in their own journey for knowledge and understanding. The bounty of my knowledge resides primarily in the field of Graphic and Web design; understanding industry standards and practices, being more than proficient in common applications and tools, familiarizing myself with coding languages and how they interact with each other and the user, and constantly refreshing my core understanding of design theories and concepts. Rather than focusing on one thing and becoming a specialist, I find the most joy in stretching my neuroplasticity in all direction and coming at any topic from various directions. We are all students. We are all teachers. Compelled by compassion, I take great joy in sharing knowledge with others and see it as a responsibility to do so when approached by an inquiring mind or confronted by a team challenge. However, it is important most learning situations are not a one-way conversation but rather an open dialog where all parties feel respectfully involved so the results can also be a positive shared experience. As the main focus of my experience alludes, creativity also resonates deeply with me. Being able to express ideas in less traditional ways or coming up with unintuitive solutions pairs well with an affinity for learning and teaching. While a challenge can present a need for research, a learning experience may need several different creative approaches to conveying information for a variety of learning styles (and experiences, now that many work and learn from home. These skills culminate in my favorite hobbies as well. I enjoy gaming (traditional and computer based) for it's natural reliance on learning, exploration, and even teaching when someone new joins in the fun. I am also a bicycle riding enthusiast for its physical challenges, rewards, and carbon neutral impact. Some day soon I hope to conquer a full RAGBRI style of event but my first goal is to master the metric century!
