As a historical data researcher, I was tasked with utilizing the collections at the Library of Congress to determine the usage history of a property and those in the immediate vicinity to the earliest date that existing records would allow. This process includes identifying and accessing records across multiple catalogs, digitizing and storing relevant portions, and entering data and metadata into a proprietary database. Working in a small, remote research group, the position involves closely communicating and coordinating with colleagues both in-person and in other remote locations. In addition, whenever possible I created Python scripts to automate repetitive tasks and explored potential improvements to our work process and product.

Meeting with clients, gathering information from them and storing it in an organized way, conducting historical and genealogical research using the client information as a starting point, building an organized record of the information found during research, and then presenting that information to the client in a clear and comprehensive way. This process necessitates good people skills, a great deal of internet and library research, and the ability to create and present large datasets in easily understood formats such as maps, trees, and visualizations.
