As the leader overseeing Maui Platform Bravo, I lead the operations and maintenance teams to ensure an uninterrupted supply of natural gas for New Zealand. My role as the Rotating Equipment Assistant at Methanex Corporation was my first of two summer internships as part of my Engineering qualification. I had the privilege of gaining hands-on experience with Rotating Equipment Team. This immersive learning experience encompassed research, testing, diagnostics, meticulous planning, and participating in workshop repairs for various types of rotating equipment, including electric motors, turbines, clutches, fans, and pumps. This practical exposure allowed me to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world industrial setting, deepening my understanding of rotating equipment and its critical role in industrial processes.

This position involved packing, sealing, and product checking of 10 Kg blocks of Mozzarella cheese as they were produced. In order to complete this job to the required speed, as well as insuring health and safety, we worked as a team making sure that all stations were always manned. It was also very important that the utmost attention was paid to all tasks during our shift. This meant that we decided as a team to swap which station we were working at every twenty minutes. The shifts that were worked in the mozzarella room were four days on, four days off; this involved working two twelve hour day shifts, followed by two twelve hour night shifts, before taking a four day break.

I was employed by Mike Cole to assist with tree pruning, tree felling and firewood cutting, over several properties and pine plantations in south Taranaki. This involved working individually pruning trees at up to 7 m high and usually at a rate of around 100 trees per day. I was also involved with felling smaller trees on rural properties which involved communicating with farmers to check what was required, before felling and producing firewood.

This involved maintenance tasks including painting, lining driveways, general moving and lifting. I was also directly involved on the yard as a car groomer where I cleaned and checked the cars to make sure that they were aesthetically ready for sale. I was also involved in communicating with potential customers and providing all the information they required on potential vehicles until a salesman was able to take over.

This involved working in a team of four or more people to coordinate the movement of up to ten herds through the milking shed and to their respective paddocks. This job involved a large amount of team work as the herds were not able to mix, this meant that there was a large amount of coordination required between the people in the milking shed and the people directing the different herds into the shed.

This job consisted of serving customers, taking phone orders, cooking and kitchen prep. This provided me with good customer service skills that I can use when meeting people as well as general hand skills, basic food preparation and hygiene techniques.
