Many people in third world countries do not have access to clean, potable water. This results in many people catching waterborne diseases which leads to many premature deaths and easily avoidable suffering. In this project my partners, Clifford Hale and Thinh Duong and I built and tested a solar powered portable water purification system that used flocculation and coagulation to remove turbidity from water and then passed the water over a UV light for disinfection. I was responsible for building the control circuitry that could both charge the batteries and control power flow to the motors.

Ultrasonic guided acoustic waves are an efficient method for detecting faults in a structural health monitoring system due to their sensitivity to disturbances. However, they are difficult to implement in real world scenarios due to the drastic affect of environmental changes particularly temperature variations. I worked on testing out Principal Component Analysis based methods for improving the computation time for large data sets acquired by Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Joel Harley at Carnegie Mellon University.

Building a rover that pick up rocks while being controlled remotely is a challenge. In this project I contributed by troubleshooting wiring faults in the wiring harness of the rover in addition to assisting my teammates with outreach events.
