About Benjamin Rous

​After having been active as a researcher and lecturer (PhD in Mediterranean Archaeology) and having worked as a policy officer in the Research Department of the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Humanities and coordinating part of the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage programme (University of Amsterdam), I am now coordinator of the Netherlands Institute for Conservation+Art+Science+ (NICAS). In addition, I write texts and provide talks and tours about opera and classical music in specific and arts and culture in general.

In September 2019, my first book 'Opera - een geschiedenis in 27 sleutelwerken' (Opera - a history in 27 key works) was published by Uitgeverij Van Oorschot. It is a personal survey of 27 important works, giving my insights into the music and themes of the individual operas and in doing so charting the history and development of the genre. At this moment, I am working on my second book: 'Sluier van de tijd - het verborgen leven van kunst' (Veil of time - the hidden life of art).
