Ben Saylor studied Jazz Performance and Education at William Paterson University of New Jersey and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a concentration in saxophone. He also earned his Master's degree in Music Education from IUP. Ben has studied and/or performed with Dr. Keith Young, Dr. Jack Stamp, Mulgrew Miller, Cecil Bridgewater, Harold Mabern, Clark Terry, Doc Severinsen, and Rich Perry of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra. He has written music for many marching bands and other ensembles including Wolves in Sheep's Clothing, Indonesian singer Eva Celia, and the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps. He remains active as a composer/arranger - publishing projects on various social media as @bensaylormusic - and performs locally as a saxophonist, tubist, and bassist. Ben was the Band Director at United High School for five years where he instructed various ensembles including concert bands, jazz and percussion ensembles, and the marching band. He now teaches music at Horace Mann Elementary School. Ben lives in Indiana, PA with his wife, Lauren, and his four children, Phineas, Libby, Oliver Meade, and Ezra.
