Started career in public practice providing Business Services, with the focus of my role being completion of financial statements for SME's. Attained Chartered Accountant status at this time.Fixed Term roles in New Zealand (Management Accounting & Project Accounting), and the United Kingdom (Financial Compliance & Management Accounting) followed over the next 4 years.I took on the permanent role of Finance Administration Manager at Lincoln University (LU), charged with managing a team of 9 staff and having responsibility to smoothly operate the finance function, whilst ensuring appropriate controls were met. Scope I managed included Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Student Finance.I then changed roles to one which provided LU with greater impact of my skillset, being Finance Business Partner at Lincoln, managing a team of 3 Management Accountants. My team's remit was to work closely with all Business Units, across both the Delivery and Service areas of the University. We provided guidance, training and assistance to ensure each Business Unit, and therefore the University, met their financial objectives, whilst continually looking for process efficiencies. I enjoyed providing expertise to my stakeholders so they could deliver, and support the delivery of, world-class teaching and research, having comfort that any financial considerations could be discussed with me and my team, and we would provide relevant analysis & solutions.I now operate as the Finance Manager for Alpine Energy, the electricity distributor for South Canterbury. I run the Finance and Property functions, managing a team of 6, with key outputs including running the annual audit, managing the annual budget process, ensuring my staff are able to efficiently perform their work, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, as well as one of individual and team wellbeing.
