I am a former Marine, full-time student, and family man. When I face a challenge, I see it as a chance to better myself, as the outcome is either the education of failure, or the analysis of what caused success. While I acquired many skills as a Marine, the most important skill I gained was to truly challenge myself in any way that I could. While still in the Marines I put myself to the test and achieved as much as I could. I went above and beyond with any opportunity that arose. As a result of this I was awarded the Naval Achievement Medal. This was given to me when I took control of my entire section during a training exercise and oversaw the service of supplies for several hundred Marines. As well, I was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for serving for 3 years without any incidents.After my enlistment ended with the Marines, I faced a whole new set of challenges. The greatest of these challenges was fatherhood. While fatherhood may not be on a list of marketable skills, it gives me a sense of drive which I never had before. I intend to leave the world a better place when I am done, for no other reason than that I am leaving it for them. When I decided to pursue an education in Engineering, it was a change for me. I wanted more than anything to challenge myself and to do something that could make a difference in the world. I think that with the right amount of effort and the right attitude, engineering is the field which people can make the biggest impact. Many challenges arose along the path to a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I am proud to say that despite the mountainous challenge that I faced at the beginning I have risen to the challenge and am set to graduate this May with a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering.This most recent semester has allowed me to choose courses which I take a particular interest in. I believe that among the challenges that we as the human race face, sustainable energy is among the most important. I plan to push forward to learn as much as I can about Energy engineering, so that I can make my mark in this field. As such I have elected to take courses specific to energy engineering with the plan to further pursue this interest in the future.
