As a Principal Engineer (Mechanical) on the Jansen project I both reviewed project drawings from a mechanical perspective and worked with the shaft sinking contractor on readiness planning for non-routine constructions scopes in the shaft (tubbing installation and hitch construction for example). I helped drive planning readiness by documenting required actions and challenging various aspects of the work (procurement, procedures, mock-ups, etc.). I also lead welding trials to better understand constructability and schedule risk for the shaft liner. During this time we also developed rope change procedures for the sinking stage ropes which was complex given the triple down arrangement and loads involved. I became involved in BHP's critical risk management program around lifting in the shaft.I also had the opportunity to be the owners representative with the contractors off site engineering group managing engineering hours and the timely and practical completion of engineering projects.

In this role I supervised a crew consisting of the the shaft and hoist maintenance team (mechanical and welding), hoist operators and skip tenders. As a team we optimized the cycle time of the hoisting system as well as our maintenance checks to maximize availability and skipping time. I also lead critical hoist and shaft maintenance tasks such as rope changes, grooving, torque and tension, motor replacement, tubbing bolt changes, motor replacements and hoist cooling troubleshooting/ repair. We lead using visual management to drive engagement with the crew on what was important or our keys to success.

In the role of Senior Maintenance Engineer I lead the site Maintenance Engineering team. This also include design of lifting devices for slinging equipment underground, inspecting damaged equipment with recommendations (ROPS damage for example), lead capital and expense projects in the shaft and underground, and was involved in incident investigations. I also obtained my underground supervisors ticket and began relief supervising various crews underground (mechanical and electrical).

As the Mine Reliability Engineer I lead and facilitated the criticality analysis for the mine, lead root cause analysis for large failures, performed statistical reliability analysis and setup key performance indicator monitoring for the Mine Manager and Shaft General Foreman. I also lead a project to install online condition monitoring on critical conveyor systems.

Engineering, maintenance and reliability focused work. This included training as an RCM facilitator, leading projects around condition monitoring, developing maintenance strategies (using RCM analysis), maintenance analysis and troubleshooting. I also performed failure analysis and mechanical design such as piping and platforms.
