About Benjamin Stormer
Growing up in West Texas I was surrounded by a culture of "southern hospitality" where a stranger is just a friend I hadn't met yet. I strive to be genuinely personable and friendly with everyone I meet, and have found that this is my most valuable asset in the workplace.During my undergraduate education, I interned at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a high-performance computing engineer and was surrounded by experts in supercomputing, physics, and all types of extremely technical disciplines. It was daunting to be in an environment where everyone has a PhD and dozens of years of experience, but I learned that they aren't as cold and calculating as they seem from the outside. I made an effort to meet and greet as many people as I could and now have developed several lasting friendships. Some of the most introverted people were the ones I learned the most from, and they were just as friendly and outgoing as me when we found a common interest.I'm not overtly extroverted though. I can lock myself in a room and work happily for hours, which is part of why I find computer science and software engineering so appealing. As long as I can listen to music, I am in a good mood. Additionally, I also love my work because I'm constantly challenged by the problems that I see every day. In college, I developed a fascination for computer software and hardware because my classes in these subjects required me to think in ways that I never had before. I find the rapid-pace of the technology industry extremely exciting rather than tiresome.In my current role at Asurion, I get to combine these two aspects of my personality. I'm surrounded by talented, kind individuals that I love learning from, but I'm also pushed to learn all of the ins-and-outs of my team's software and cloud-native systems to become a stronger engineer.
