Senior Scientist
Scientist (Technology)
The department of Biochemistry and Cellular Pharmacology is situated in the research division of Genentech (gRED) and my group supports early stage research and discovery efforts, specializing in the identification of lead drug candidates by developing customized high-throughput screening applications and then utilizing technologies such as hydrogen exchange mass spectrometry to characterize mechanism of action once lead candidates are identified.
Technical Development Scientist
I am primarily interested in exploring and understanding how structural dynamics shapes protein behaviors, from catalysis to binding to degradation. My group at Genentech tries to understand how the interplay between formulation and protein dynamics governs structural and chemical stability. I then search for a particular formulation that will provide the safest and most deliverable compound with an appropriate shelf-life through early-Phase clinical trials. I also utilize in silico tools, such as molecular dynamics, or hydrogen exchange experiments to aid in early discovery or better understand develop ability of our therapeutic antibodies. I am like a child walking into a toy store, five days a week (it would be seven days a week but I've been told that one needs a work-life balance).Living in San Francisco means that I play outdoors most of the time (when I'm not working, of course). You’ll often find me hiking with my wife and daughter, sailing on the bay, or cycling.
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
My work focuses on characterization of monoclonal antibody higher order structure (structural dynamics) and development of various methods for this purpose. I am associated primarily with the protein analytical chemistry department (PAC-2) and participate in many collaborations with analytical operations and early stage pharmaceutical development departments.Primary Techniques Employed: Peptide Mapping & Molecular Assessment, Mass Spectrometry, Hydrogen Exchange, Various Chromatographic Techniques (UHPLC, Ion Exchange, Affinity Chromatography), and Molecular Dynamics.
Chairperson Of The Board
CurrentThe overarching aim of the society is to support the International Conference for HDX-MS (IC-HDXMS) by providing a responsible legal entity for organizing the conference. As a framework for the IC-HDXMS, the organization seeks unite users of HDX-MS both from academia, industry and instrument vendor companies and support the HDX-MS scientific community in the sharing of both published and unpublished scientific research and best practices and engage and support community activities. We believe this to be critical to the continued development of the HDX-MS field. As a central principle, the society functions with full transparency for all members and through democratic principles based on common rules for non-profit societies.
Ph.D. Candidate
Research focus: Large protein structural dynamics, bioinformatics, data analysis, and computer programming (Python, Matlab)Primary Techniques Employed: Hydrogen Exchange, Multi-dimensional Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Mass Spectrometry (Orbitrap, LTQ, QTOF), UV-Vis, Circular Dichroism, Stop-flow rapid mixing device.
Research Technician
Phosphorylation site mapping of membrane proteins in Arabidopsis. Method development, data analysis, mass spectrometry
