As the department increased I began to take on additional roles which ultimately lead to me, with the support of key persons co-ordinating the transfer of equipment and manufacturing from another one of our sites which was to unfortunately cease on site production and operations. This involved organising for the relocation of a 155 ton pressure vessel including the initial construction works for its new location and the relocation of the vessel itself and all associated equipment and procedures. We also had to transfer and integrate the manufacture of a complex and highly certificated product line.

I was seconded from the shop floor to an office to log and expedite any outstanding or at risk sales orders for parts and tooling, also to ensure any upcoming sales orders weren't at risk of becoming late. By liaising with internal manufacturing, planning and engineering teams and also outside suppliers I was able to assist orders through the process and increase on time delivery of parts and tooling orders. This position then became permanent and would ultimately lead to a small department of staff tackling various production and planning procedures.

At that time the machine shop at Forum operated a shift system, therefore a shift supervisor was required for each one. We rotated on early and late shifts and co-ordinated work between the supervisors, scheduling, distributing and prioritising jobs, quoting, timings and routing for new jobs, HR and staffing of the shop, HSE for the shops (including risk assesments and competancy training) I also took on the role of the machine shop Lean co-ordinator and with the help of other staff members we implemented many changes uses tools such as SMED and 6s to create a better more efficient machine shop. At Forum I continued being a CNC and manual machinist although here I primarily operated Hurco and Hiedenhain machines. I quickly progressed taking on any additional roles and ultimately applied for the position of lead hand (or shift supervisor) when it became available.
